We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own to-do list,” – Michelle Obama.

Hello,

I'm Jackie, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Holistic Aesthetician. While working in Dermatology, I had a moment of enlightenment. It became vividly apparent that our skin directly reflects our inner health, and what we nourish our mind, bodies, and spirit with directly impacts our overall beauty. This awakening shaped my future and has become the foundation by which I live my life today.

After years of working in traditional medicine, I felt a calling to be part of something bigger. While conventional medicine focuses on treating symptoms and disease with medication and surgical interventions, I'm pursuing a vision to provide tools and strategies used in traditional healing to complement our current mainstream model.

As a Holistic Aesthetician and Integrative Nutrition Coach, I provide tools, strategies, one on one coaching, treatment plans and wellness programs that produce radiant, glowing skin that illuminates from within and to help people transform their lives into one of health, peace, and happiness.  I can't wait to share with you the healing benefits nature has blessed us with, and I look forward to helping you on your journey to transformation!

Jackie

Stephanie’s Family

"Stephanie’s love as a Holistic Therapist has always been to use the culmination of her education and talents to treat the whole client, especially those who suffer from chronic pain and dysfunction by unwinding physical trauma in addition to unraveling the metabolic chaos produced by the body's inability to cope with everyday stressors."

Since 2005, Stephanie has worked with individuals in their pursuit of holistic methods for change and to better their overall health.  She received training in herbs, supplements & topical remedies assisting a local nutritionist and supporting clients on behavior modifications and natural remedies through essential oils, nutrition, and educating on cellular & quantum science.  Receiving additional training in a myriad of modalities -- including Aromatherapy, Lithotherapies, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Five Element Theory, and Usui Reiki --  Stephanie concurrently offered services as a 13th Generation Usui Reiki Master and owned her own company from 2005 to 2009, which featured Reiki Candles, Aromatherapy, Dead Sea Bath Salts and other natural topical remedies for reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and embracing the healing properties of nature.

After moving home to Fort Wayne in 2009, Stephanie began pursuing the next chapter of her training to deepen her understanding of bodywork by treating the nervous system and studying the human body's response to different stressors.  Expanding her understanding of human anatomy and physiology was instrumental, in addition to the psychology of the body and observing the psychosomatic response when treating the nervous system. Coupled with other requirements of her 1,300-hour massage therapy program, Stephanie studied principles of pharmacology and herbs & drugs with special attention to regulating the nervous system by massage and behavioral changes resulting in stress reduction.

Before she would become a Holistic Massage and Integrative Therapist, she became a personal fitness trainer fortifying her ability to counsel others on stretching, exercise, nutrition & making lifestyle changes.  Moreover, her additional training fortified her even further to work with clients to promote a healthy diet, support healthy sleep patterns, adopt a healthy exercise regimen, reduce everyday stressors from diet & environment with lifestyle changes, and offer ideas for supplementation on key vitamins and minerals when necessary.

In 2011, Stephanie sat early for her board exam and became Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork -- which focused predominantly on Eastern Bodywork Modalities with a strong emphasis on the principles of Five Element Theory and Meridian Therapy.  Soon after, she graduated from Ivy Tech with an AAS in Therapeutic Massage.  Years later, she would complete an intensive year-long Medical Massage program, earning her Advanced Certification in Medical Massage Therapy.

Stephanie’s love as a Holistic/Integrative Therapist has always been to use the culmination of her education and talents to treat the whole client, especially those who suffer from chronic pain and dysfunction by unwinding physical trauma in addition to unraveling the metabolic chaos produced by the body's inability to cope with everyday stressors.  She has been providing bodywork sessions with an integrative approach since 2005: her consultations, counseling, energy work, bodywork and massage services are all facets of the same whole-body, Holistic Therapy approach she provides.

"She has been providing bodywork sessions with an integrative approach since 2005, her consultations, coaching, energy work, bodywork and massage services are all facets of the same whole body, Holistic Therapy."

Using a whole-body approach to treat, fortify, and regulate her client's health and well-being via regulating the feedback to the central nervous system (CNS) through touch and meaningful life changes, Stephanie is able to work with clients experiencing a wide range of issues. Overall, the focus of her practice has always been to understand the human body's stress response, coping mechanisms, and adaptations --- anatomically and physiologically on all body, organ, tissue and cellular levels.

Some of her continuing education has been in Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release which is steeped in cellular and fascial form and function, Cupping Therapy and Fascial Movement Taping for Pain and Posture for nerve re-education and regulation. Besides those mentioned, Stephanie’s therapeutic specialties include Integrated Deep Tissue for Pain Management, Orthopedic and Medical Massage Therapy and Neuromuscular Therapy.

Her background as a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, certified through the National Federation for Professional Trainers (NFPT), has been a valuable asset in treating and making recommendations to clients and also in working with fitness and healthcare professionals of Northeast Indiana. Her skills and knowledge of muscle imbalances and biomechanical assessment enable her to more effectively assess, treat and educate her clients.

Stephanie is dually Certified as a Genetic-Based Program Designer and Health Coach.  She is currently pursuing certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P) to further deepen her understanding of advanced anatomy & physiology and the body's stress cascade response so she can better help clients understand healing opportunities they have and support positive change in combination with massage & bodywork.

Massage Clinic Administrator Janet

Janet

  •   RN, Nurse Massage Therapist (NMT)
  •   Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
  •   Vital Living WellSpa Owner
  •   PLA#: MT20901877
  •   National Provider Identifier (NPI) #: 1124494505
  •   Therapeutic Specialist: Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, Personal Growth through Bodywork

Janet brings 49 years of nursing experience to Vital Living – 16 years in traditional nursing and the past 33 years as a Nurse Massage Therapist, Educator, and Business Owner. Blending traditional and complementary medicine, this was the beginning of her career in Integrative Health and Wellness.

Recognizing the value of medical massage therapy for pain relief, restriction of movement, rehabilitation from injury, trauma, and surgery, as well as a myriad of other health issues including toxic stress, she realized that physicians didn’t understand that medical massage was a missing link in prevention and treatment. She also saw the need for professional education. So in 1990, Center for Vital Living (CVL) School of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork was born. As Education Director, curriculum was developed, Instructors hand-picked and full accreditation in Indiana and Ohio was completed. CVL became the first massage school in Indiana to be approved for an Associate Degree program in Massage Therapy. Thus, the vision became a reality – the Clinic provided professional Therapeutic Massage services and the school developed well-trained Massage Therapists who had a strong foundation in “result-oriented” comprehensive therapeutic massage (aka bodywork). This was quite different from the typical entry-level “relaxation massage” schools around the country. Another dream was realized when CVL was consulted to help design the first hospital-based “Wellness Oasis” at St. Joseph Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN; and then again when regional massage schools began popping up with curriculums quite similar to CVL… imitation, the greatest form of flattery. Concurrently, Janet maintained a successful massage therapy practice specializing in Myofascial Release (MFR) and CranioSacral Therapy (C/S) until the school closed its doors in 2007. Closing one door and opening another, Janet and Stacey Elwood joined together in April 2007. Vital Living Therapeutic Massage, LLC was created. As massage therapy services expanded and more Integrative Wellness services were added, the name was changed to Vital Living WellSpa to better reflect the variety of services being offered.

Grandchildren – Piper & Tilmon. They make my heart sing!

Janet states, “Everything Vital Living offers has a medical reason behind it, even stress reduction/relaxation massage. We’re definitely more than“fluff ‘n buff”; we’ve grown far beyond the limited image of massage as a luxury reserved only for the wealthy. Myofascial Release (MFR) made such a profound impact on my health 33 years ago that I left my traditional nursing career to pursue massage therapy and integrative health. I’ve never looked back!”

“Awareness has definitely increased in the past 33 years; but the medical community and people in general, are still learning how much influence therapeutic/medical massage has on a vast number of health concerns. The same holds true with our Medical Grade Infrared BodyWraps and LED (red light) Photo-Facials. The health benefits are tremendous! And we can no longer ignore the importance of eating healthy nutrient-dense, plant-based foods if real wellness is to be achieved. It’s an essential component in reducing systemic inflammation, relieving pain, losing weight, and achieving optimal health. You’ll be seeing more to come in this area. Vital Living has always been at the forefront as a leading health pioneer bringing time-tested health and treatment modalities to Fort Wayne and the region. You can expect more Integrative Wellness services to be added as the future unfolds. You may have noticed our Aesthetics Division is growing by leaps and bounds. We’re very excited about all of this!” Janet is an Advisory Board Member for Ivy Tech’s Massage Therapy Program as well as a member of Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP) and a former member of the National Association of Nurse Massage Therapists (NANMT). Janet retired from treating clients in 2014 to focus full-time on the business. She maintains her skills by educating clients and staff and treating her family.
